Walker + Alicia | Engagement photo shoot | Seattle, WA

Click here to see their engagement slideshow!

These two rocked it for the camera.  They were awesome to work with.  We did a marathon engagement photo session that started at Ballard Locks (where they had a memorable date), hurried over to Kerry Park (overlooking the space needle where they got engaged) while we still had some daylight, then finished at Pike Place Market (because it’s fun) and to the famous gum wall in Post Alley.

Congrats on your engagement, Walker & Alicia!

Bryan + Sarah | Wedding Photography | Mercer Island, WA

See their wedding photo slideshow here.

Bryan and Sarah had a private ceremony on a tropical beach, but they also wanted to have a ceremony and a reception here to celebrate with their family and friends. It was an exciting day that involved cake in the bride’s and groom’s faces, and the bride’s mother’s, brother’s and daughter’s faces, and then the night ended with the bride and groom and several wedding guests jumping in Lake Washington in the middle of the night.

Wedding photographer joshua gene captures a tender moment between bryan and sarah when they snuck out of their wedding reception for a few minutes.

Engagement Photos What to Wear

I often get asked for suggestions on what to wear to an engagement photography session. So in addition to my article on places for engagement photo shoots in seattle, I thought I would add an article on what clothes to wear, along with a couple other thoughts.

Engagement sessions are a great way to get to know me. It helps out a lot on the wedding day if you already know me and my style and how I interact with the two of you. Plus if you know me, and I know you, you’ll be a lot more comfortable around me on your wedding day, and I can get images that better show your personalities and relationship.

Suggestions on what to wear:

  • Wear something you are comfortable in. If you’re not comfortable, it will show in the pictures. 2-3 outfit changes are welcomed, and they give variety to the pictures.
  • Think about layering clothing.
  • It’s best not to wear tight jeans or other clothes that are overly tight and restrict movement. Or show curves you don’t want shown.
  • Wear something you love, and make sure it’s ‘you’. It’s best not to wear something you are going to wish you didn’t wear in a few weeks.
  • A touch dressier than a normal night can be fun, just make sure it’s still you.
  • Wear clothes that are complementary in style and color. Don’t be too matchy. For example, you could both wear fall colors or both wear different shades of blue.
  • Wear clothes that are the same level of dressyness. Don’t dress up and have your fiance wear their everyday street clothes.
  • Have the clothes match the location and season for the shoot. Shorts and flip flops probably are not the best on a cold day (this goes back to being comfortable, if you are not warm it’s harder to look warm and happy)
  • Darker colors are slimming and they are also easier to photograph. But if you have something in white or off white, don’t be afraid to wear it.
  • Patterns go out of style quickly, and the background usually has enough texture that patterns can sometimes make the photos too busy.
  • Wear shoes you love.
  • Wear shoes you can comfortably walk in.  If I’m your photographer we usually walk a fair bit.
  • Leave your purse behind, unless you want it in the photos. (You can be more free and fun without it) I can carry your keys and a few necessities in my camera bag. I don’t like to carry sunglasses so leave those behind or plan on wearing them. We can go back to the car for clothing changes or change when we switch locations.
  • If you want to have your dog in some of the photos, it would be best to have a friend come along to watch him/her while we are taking other shots.

Other Things to Remember:

  • Plan on having a good time. Think of it more like a date, and less of smiling to the camera.
  • The best time for photos is in the evening when the light is soft, and we have the chance of getting a sunset.
  • If there is something you want me to avoid photographing it helps if you let me know. That way I can work with you to keep the scar, tattoo, part in your hair, or whatever you want me to keep out of the pictures out.

Ashley & Nick | Wedding Photography | Seattle LDS Temple

Ashley and Nick were married in the Seattle LDS Temple. Then we went down to the Anderson Farm in Renton where they had a ring ceremony and reception.  Ashley & Nick snuck away from the reception for a few minutes so we could get some awesome pictures with the setting sun.

Travis & Nicole | Wedding Photography | Monroe Washington

Travis and Nicole flew in from Arizona to be married in Travis’ parent’s backyard. That is where Travis proposed, so it is a special place for them.

Wedding Photo Slideshow

Travis & Nicole Had a beautiful backyard wedding in monroe washington. The wedding had wonderful flowers, catering and beautiful place settings. And of course seattle wedding photographer joshua gene took some photojournalistic, rad, laid back, wedding photos.

I love this old guy. He\'s got so much wisdom, and such a sweet smile. I love to take pictures of people that will be cherished and loved for generations.

Look at this cute little flower girl, isn\'t she adorable? I love her cute little dress. During the wedding she held her dad\'s hand tightly while holding her stuffed bear in the other hand. Quite the little trooper, portland wedding.

Here’s a little self portrait of me in the background, while Nicole was checking out how smoking hot she was in the mirror.

So as I was taking some shots of nicole from all different angles I found myself in the mirror, I quickly moved out of the way then quickly back in for a little self portrait photo before the wedding photography. The wedding was held in monroe washington which is in snohomish county washington and north of duvall washington and south of lake stevens washington and east of mill creek washington and north east of woodinville. Really it\'s only about a 45 minute drive from seattle, mukilteo, lynnwood, mountlake terrace, hollywood washington, fairmont, and edmonds washington. Lord hill regional park, not to be confused with lord regional park in washington is only a short distance away. If you keep heading north you will run into Mt Vernon, also spelle mount vernon washington, everett washington, burlington, sedro woolley, bellingham, bellingham way, friday harbour, lynden, ferndale, anacortes. If you are looking for a photographer or wedding photographer in one of these cities please give me a call. I photograph weddings and engagements, anniversaries, as well as bar and bat mitzvah\'s. I would love to hear from you, please leave me a comment below, maybe let me know where you are from and how you found me, saying something nice below isn\'t always a bad option either. If you are reading this you are probably wondering what the heck is going on and wondering why this portland photographer is writing so much gibber jabber, it has to do with seo and keyword density and trying to make it easier for people in surrounding cities who are interested in my services able to find me. Hope I didn\'t bore you too much. Have a fine day at work, and once again if you\'ve read this far you\'ve gotta leave a comment. Cheers Joshua Gene Seattle wedding photographer.

Seattle Wedding party does a little hoorah and a toast. I love capturing these real, and psuedo real moments. This shot was created using a nikon d300 with a shutter speed of 1/100th of a second f5 and iso 200. All of the blur was created by twisting the camera while taking a picture, sometimes like this it turns out perfectly, usually it doesn\'t, takes a bit of experimentation to get this shot right.
